“Today” show host prepares for high asset divorce

On Behalf of | May 24, 2018 | Divorce

Texas residents may be aware that long time Today show host Matt Lauer is preparing to divorce. After 20 years of marriage, his wife, Annette Roque, filed for divorce after allegations surfaced surrounding her husband’s sexual misconduct in the workplace. The couple previously encountered marital strife, with Roque filing for divorce in 2006 and withdrawing her petition not long after. A high asset divorce was rumored to be on the horizon as recently as 2014. It appears, however, that the recent allegations factored into Roque’s decision to move forward with the end of the marriage.

As they prepare to go their separate ways, these high-profile spouses will need to reach an agreement on how to divide marital property. Estimates place Lauer’s career earnings at around $100 million. His Today show contract in recent years brought in $25 million per year.

The couple also owns several pieces of real estate, although two of their properties are currently on the market. Reports indicate that Lauer is currently living in the guest home of one of their properties while Roque and the kids live in the main house. While some have speculated that a reconciliation may be in the works, others believe that the couple is moving forward with the divorce.

Lauer and Roque share three small children, and child support will likely play a central role in their divorce negotiations. There is no word on the presence of a prenuptial agreement, leaving the parties on their own in terms of hammering out a divorce settlement. As many Texas residents understand, celebrity couples often make every effort to settle high asset divorce cases outside of court. That affords them a degree of privacy, which is especially important to those who have minor children.
