For some people, divorce is unexpected, they never saw it coming. For others, the signs were more than apparent. Sometimes, both spouses come to the same conclusion at generally the same time. And sometimes, one spouse wants to make it work while the other simply wants out.
Like marriages, divorces are similar and yet unique to every couple. The same holds true for the various signs that usually indicate divorce is imminent. Here are a few signs that it might be time for you to consider divorce.
You’re already preparing for single life
Maybe you have recently joined a gym or you have found yourself experiencing an increased interest in houses or condos available in the Spring area. Perhaps you are planning a shopping spree to update your wardrobe. If you have not been completely satisfied with your marriage lately, this could be either purposeful or subconscious planning for the single life. In other words, if you are already making arrangements for a life separate from your spouse’s, this is a strong indicator that it is time to consider divorce.
You are disconnected
Emotional disconnection or disaffection toward your spouse is also a significant sign that divorce is on the horizon. When a couple no longer connects or engages emotionally, then the intimacy that is necessary for a successful marriage suffers and could completely disappear. Without the connections that hold a relationship together, a marriage can rapidly fall apart.
Lack of communication
Another important part of a strong relationship is communication. In fact, communication is vital when it comes to conflict resolution. If a couple is no longer talking about the important things or choose avoidance over resolving differences, then there are definitely some problems. Even if only one spouse has given up, this could be the beginning of the end. Once communication grinds to a halt, other problems tend to follow including a loss of respect and eventual withdrawal from the marriage.
If you have noticed any of the above signs in your relationship, it could be time to start planning for divorce. While some couples can find their way back to the marriage, for many the only answer is to end the marriage and begin their lives anew.
