Huma Abedin and Anthony Weiner to settle divorce privately

On Behalf of | Jan 11, 2018 | Divorce

Many Texas residents are aware of the split between Huma Abedin and Anthony Weiner. The high profile couple have been in the news at various times over many years now, with many speculating on when they will finally divorce. Abedin filed for divorce last year, but the couple recently withdrew that matter.

Abedin is a top aide to Hilary Clinton, while her husband is a former Congressman plagued with allegations of sexual misconduct, some of which he admitted to. Most recently, Weiner sent sexually charged text messages to a teenage girl, an act for which he is now serving a 21 month prison sentence. Emails exchanged between the parties played a role in the 2016 FBI investigation into Hilary Clinton’s email use.

The couple managed to stay together through multiple previous sexting scandals, but few were surprised when Abedin filed for divorce. The divorce was withdrawn not due to a reconciliation, but over concerns about how a public proceeding might impact their shared son. By settling the details of their divorce out of court, the parties can try and preserve some measure of privacy for their young son. Previous attempts to have the divorce case made private or anonymous were denied by the judge handling the matter.

As the divorce moves forward, Texas readers may learn little else about this unusual marriage and how Weiner’s choices impacted the relationship. There is no word on how Abedin will direct her political career. Weiner, once his prison sentence is completed, is unlikely to return to public service.
