Divorce mediation could save time and money for Texas couples

The fact of the matter is that money is a substantial consideration when ending a marriage. Both parties want to make sure that they are able to survive, and even thrive, financially after a divorce. Since divorce mediation can often save Texas couples a significant amount of money, it bears careful consideration.

Part of the reason that mediation saves a couple money is that it takes far less time than the average divorce proceeding. In a traditional divorce in which the parties go to court, they often find themselves at odds and battling it out before a judge for assets, support and custody. This substantially increases the time and money associated with a divorce.

Mediation, on the other hand, encourages the parties to cooperate and compromise. Contrary to popular belief, it is not necessary to be friends in order to benefit from mediation. Instead, it requires the parties to put aside their feelings about each other and focus on resolving their issues. The mediator can offer options when the parties are deadlocked and can keep the negotiations on point so that they do not degrade into a battle. Each party is given the opportunity to be heard, which often alleviates much of the tension that the adversarial litigation process fosters.

Some Texas couples tend to shy away from divorce mediation because they believe their issues are too complex to resolve in this manner. In fact, the opposite is true. Divorce mediation can resolve complex issues as long as the parties involved are willing to work together. More often than not, the parties end up with an agreement tailored specifically to their needs and walk away more satisfied.
