Post-holiday divorce trending, according to Google

Some Texas couples may still be basking in the afterglow of spending some relaxing time together over the recent holidays. According to Google Trends, some individuals might be wondering if this holiday was the last they may spend with their significant others. It has been noted the amount of people who are turning to the internet for advice on ending their relationships is trending upwards, which means the divorce rate may soon increase as well.

Breaking up after the holidays is not uncommon. In fact, a 2010 study found that the time spent together between the two holidays resulted in couples breaking up with greater frequency. The only time period that more couples broke up in was during the month of March. Another study showed that couples are actually around twice more likely to break up during the time between Christmas and Valentine's Day, as opposed to other times of the year.

It has been suggested that there are large numbers of breakups post-Christmas due to the holidays being a sort of test for many couples. That is, for those on the brink of a decision, breaking up before the holidays may be perceived as being more stressful than waiting until the start of the new year. Thus, after the stress of the holidays -- as well as discovering that a partner either can't help alleviate the stress or even exacerbates it -- couples may decide that it's time to divorce.

Whether a divorce is settled in our out of a courtroom, it is often complex and even intimidating. When complicated issues arise due to children, property or alimony, some individuals may not know where to begin or what their legal rights may be. In Texas, they are fully entitled to consult with experienced family law attorneys to  guide and support them through every step of the process.
